Mint AI Image Enhancer is a Shopify app made by Mint Labs ("we", "us"). It enhances a merchant's product images (AI upscaling and clean-up, background removal, square canvas, sharpening), puts the result on the product, and keeps the originals so they can be restored. This policy explains what the app handles, why, and when it's deleted.
The short version
- The app works only with the merchant's product images and product titles. It never reads customer or order data, and has no access to it.
- AI upscaling runs in the merchant's own browser. Background removal runs on our image service (Cloudflare Images), only for the images the merchant chooses.
- It keeps exact copies of the original image files it replaced, privately, so the merchant can restore or download them.
- Nothing is added to the storefront: no scripts, no cookies, no tracking of shoppers.
- Everything is deleted 48 hours after the app is uninstalled (Shopify's store deletion request).
- We never sell or share data, use images to train models, use them for advertising, or combine them across stores.
What the app stores
| Information | Why | Kept |
|---|---|---|
| Store domain, store name and a Shopify access token | To read product images and update them on the merchant's instruction. | Token: until uninstall. Rest: until the store deletion request |
| The list of product images: product ID and title; each image's ID, address, file name, alt text (shown, never changed), file size, dimensions, state and a short description of what was done to it | The Images, Enhance and Activity pages and the numbers on Home. | While installed; deleted with the store deletion request |
| Exact copies of original image files the app replaced, and fingerprints (SHA-256) of the files it uploaded | Restore (put the original back exactly) and Download original; the fingerprints tell the app whether a product still shows its enhancement. Stored privately in Cloudflare R2 and D1; only the merchant's admin can download originals. | While installed; deleted after the store deletion request (within hours) |
| Settings (default enhancement options, low-resolution threshold) | To pre-fill the Enhance page. | While installed |
| Job history (scans and restores: when, how many images, reasons for skipped images) | The Activity page. | 90 days |
| Plan (Free, Pro or Plus), its dates and the monthly counts of enhanced images and background removals | Read from Shopify to decide which allowance applies. Payments are handled entirely by Shopify. | While installed |
How images are processed
- AI upscaling and clean-up: the image file is loaded from Shopify (through the app) into the merchant's browser, and the open-source waifu2x model runs there on the computer's graphics card. The pixels are not sent to any AI service for this step. The model files are downloaded from our server and cached by the browser.
- Background removal: when the merchant previews an image with background removal, that image is sent to our server and processed by Cloudflare Images (an open-source segmentation model run by Cloudflare). The result comes back to the browser; neither we nor the service keep it.
- Applying: the finished image is uploaded to our server, checked, and sent to Shopify, which stores it as the product image. The app reads the pixels only to process them; it doesn't analyse what the images show. Camera data embedded in a photo (such as a location) is not carried into the enhanced file; the kept original is stored unchanged.
Customer privacy requests
- Access and erasure requests (Shopify's
customers/data_requestandcustomers/redact): the app holds no customer data, so there is nothing to return or delete. The requests are acknowledged. - Store deletion (
shop/redact, sent 48 hours after a merchant uninstalls): we delete everything we hold for the store. Database rows are deleted at once; the kept original files are deleted by a job that runs every 5 minutes.
Where data is processed and how it's protected
The app runs on Cloudflare (hosting, database, file storage, image processing and job queue) and connects to Shopify's APIs. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access is limited to Mint Labs staff who need it to provide support. We use no other sub-processors, analytics or trackers. See our security policy.
